Upcoming Globalping API Limit Changes

Since Globalping's inception, we communicated a default limit of 100 tests per hour per IP address. However, to ensure flexibility while we worked on implementing user accounts and authentication, we temporarily set a much higher limit of 100,000 tests per hour. This was never intended to be the permanent limit but rather a temporary measure until we could roll out proper account-based management.

Now that our new dashboard is live, we're ready to move towards the intended limits. By signing up, users will gain access to 500 tests per hour right away. Additionally, for those who sponsor us or host probes, there’s the opportunity to receive extra credits and increase these limits further.

What This Means for You

We kindly ask all users, especially those running automated scripts or services through our platform, to review their usage and prepare for these upcoming changes. If your usage exceeds the default limits, we recommend signing up and managing your usage through the dashboard.

By registering via the new dashboard, you can:

  • Increase your limit to 500 tests/hour.
  • Earn extra credits for hosting probes or sponsoring Globalping to enjoy even higher limits.

Key Upcoming Changes to the API Limits

To ease the transition, we will gradually reduce the temporary limits for unregistered users. Here’s the timeline:

  1. November 15th: The limit will be reduced to 50,000 tests/hour.
  2. December 15th: The limit will further drop to 10,000 tests/hour.
  3. January 15th: The final unregistered user limit will be set to 250 tests/hour.

The limit is always applied per IP address. If you’re running a public website or service that includes a tool built on Globalping, and the requests are sent directly from the end-user's browser, each user gets their own separate limit.

Using Our Official Globalping Apps

To make this transition as easy as possible, we've integrated the new authentication system into our official apps:

  • Globalping CLI: Our CLI already supports all authentication features. You can log in and get the higher limits by running the command globalping auth. It's a quick and easy way to ensure your scripts can continue running without interruptions.
  • Slack App: Our Slack App will soon be updated to support the new authentication system. Workspace admins will be able to link the Slack app to their Globalping account, ensuring that all tests run under their registered account with higher limits.

Using the Globalping API Directly

For those who prefer to interact directly with our API, it’s essential to generate and use an access token for all requests. This will ensure you have access to the higher limits. The token can be generated in the dashboard, with more details available in our API documentation.

We encourage you to sign up now to avoid any service disruptions and to continue benefiting from Globalping’s capabilities. Thank you for being part of the Globalping community, and we look forward to expanding the platform with your help!
